This panel discussion explores the full arc of building and leading a research team in the context of an ERC Starting Grant — from the initial proposal phase, where the team is planned and justified on paper, to the realities of recruitment, leadership, and project management after funding begins.

Participants will:
• Understand how to effectively describe and justify a project team in the ERC Starting Grant proposal, including aligning roles with the scientific aims.
• Gain practical insights into team recruitment strategies, leadership styles, and day-to-day project management practices that support successful grant implementation.
• Learn from real-world challenges and solutions in setting up and managing an ERC-funded research team, with an emphasis on lessons that inform better proposal planning.
