Announcement of the GACR calls for proposals

The Czech Science Foundation (GA CR) has announced the public tender in research, experimental development and innovation for the support of Standard, Junior and International projects in basic research and projects of excellence in basic research - EXPRO.

Objectives

Important basic information (in general)

• A drafter (or co-drafter) must be in an employment or similar relationship (not however in a labour law relationship based on an agreement on work performed outside of employment) with the applicant (co-applicant) or such a relationship must be established no later than the date the grant project begins.
• Should a drafter or a co-drafter of a standard (junior, international) project take part in an EXPRO project as a drafter or a co-drafter in a given calendar year, he is not allowed to take part in both of them in the role of either a drafter or a co-drafter, instead he has to choose between carrying out only one of them in one of these roles.
• Zero workload (FTE) is not permitted.
• The sum of all workloads (FTEs) allocated for all projects supported by the GA CR may not exceed 100% for a single employee.

Limitations

STANDARD, JUNIOR AND INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS

• A single person may only take part in at most a single project in the role of drafter and at most a single project in the role of co-drafter under all GA CR calls (i.e. calls for standard and international bilateral projects, and junior grants) in a given calendar year.
• FTE on the project is recommended at least 20% for the drafter and at least 10% for the co-drafter.

JUNIOR grants
• The drafter has to be a researcher involved in basic research, he has to be awarded a Ph.D. degree or its equivalent no earlier than 8 years before the year of project proposal submission (not including maternity and parental leave, and sick leave in the case of a longterm illness).
• To the date of the start of the relevant tender period he must have absolved a postdoc internship in a different country than in which he was awarded his Ph.D. degree in duration of at least 180 days (it could be devided into two parts).
One person cannot act as investigator in two or more junior projects at the same time.
• Apart from the investigator, a research team consists of at least two professional collaborators, whose age does not exceed 35 years in the year of project proposal submission.

EXPRO
The goal of this group of grant projects is to create favourable circumstances for development of excellent research, to set the standards of excellent science, to help to overcome barriers limiting the success rate of ERC project proposals, and to provide an opportunity to obtain valuable knowledge and experience for those interested in submitting highly prestigious European grant projects.
A single person may only take part in at most a single project in the role of drafter or co-drafter under the EXPRO call in a given calendar year.
• A result of a successfully carried out EXPRO grant project is an ERC project proposal submitted by a member of a project team.
• Budget max 50 mil CZK/5 years
• The workload (FTE) allocated for an EXPRO project cannot drop below 50% of average annual full-time equivalent for the drafter, co-drafter, for every professional collaborator and other professional collaborators. This requirement is not valid for technical and administrative staff, and undergraduates.
