THETA 2 TA CR program: Announcement of the 1st public competition

On September 13, 2023, TA CR announced the first public competition in the THÉTA 2 Program for the Support of Applied Research and Innovation.

The public competition of the THETA 2 program is aimed at fulfilling the vision of transformation and modernization of the energy sector in accordance with the approved strategic materials. This goal will be achieved through the support of research, development and innovation projects in the field of energy, which are aimed at improving the management of the energy sector by the public administration, new technologies and system elements with a high potential for rapid application in practice, as well as long-term technological perspectives.

Objectives

Research in the public interest (PP1)

Sub-programme 1 is focused on topics taking into account the fundamental and interconnected trends in energy, which are decarbonization, decentralization, digitalization and democratization, from the point of view of public interest. They will also emphasize interdisciplinary technical areas, i.e. the interaction and connection of energy with other sectors.

Priority research goals - selection is not mandatory, but will bring extra points, application guarantors are also determined here

Energy technologies for competitiveness (PP2)

Sub-programme 2 is focused on the preparation of technologies and solutions with rapid application in practice. The supported technologies and technological solutions should contribute to the fulfillment of the climate, energy and environmental goals of the Czech Republic, especially in the short and medium term. Support will be concentrated in new and traditional areas in which research and development in the Czech Republic is already at the European and world level or can significantly benefit from competitive advantages.

Technology to ensure the long-term sustainability of energy (PP3)

Subprogramme 3 is aimed at supporting projects preparing technologies and solutions that are at a lower level of technological readiness (TRL, typically 3 to 5) at the time of project design and for which rapid applicability of results in practice is not primarily expected.

Limitations

Applicant: research organisation, enterprise

Start of implementation: May 2024 at the earliest and July 2024 at the latest
Duration of implementation: 12 - 48 months in PP1 and PP2, 36 - 90 months in PP3

Maximum amount of support: PP1 90% (max. 10 million CZK), PP2 60%, PP3 85%
