The Czech Science Foundation (GA CR) has announced the public tender in research, experimental development and innovation for the support of Standard, JUNIOR STAR and International projects in basic research and projects of excellence in basic research - EXPRO.

EXPRO
- The aim of this group of grant projects is to create conditions for development of excellent research, to set standards of excellent science, to help overcome barriers which reduce the success of ERC project proposals and to enable obtaining necessary knowledge and experience that will increase in value when submitting highly prestigious European grants.
- The workload (FTE) allocated for an EXPRO project cannot drop below 50% of average annual full-time equivalent for the drafter, co-drafter, for every professional collaborator and other professional collaborators. This requirement is not valid for technical and administrative staff, and undergraduates.
- The EXPRO grant will result in a project proposal for one of the main ERC calls for proposals (until 1 year after the end of the project).
JUNIOR STAR
- Support of excellent junior scientists with significant international experience working in the field of basic research who meet the condition that no more than 8 years have passed since obtaining a Ph.D. academic title or its equivalent as of 30 September of the year the public tender has been announced.
- Support of excellent basic research and at the same time, to provide an opportunity for scientists at the beginning of their career to establish an independent research group.
- The workload (FTE) cannot drop below 50% of average annual full-time equivalent for the drafter, co-drafter, for every professional collaborator and other professional collaborators.
Limitations
Basic information (in general)
- A drafter (or co-drafter) must be in an employment or similar relationship (not however in a labour law relationship based on an agreement on work performed outside of employment) with the applicant (co-applicant) or such a relationship must be established no later than the date the grant project begins.
- The sum of all workloads (FTEs) allocated for all projects supported by the GA CR may not exceed 100% for a single employee.
- Single person can participate within EXPRO and JUNIOR STAR public tenders in the given calendar year only in one project in the role of applicant and in one project in the role of co-applicant. Single person can participate in the given year only in one EXPRO project (in the role of investigator or co-investigator). A single person may only take part in at most a single project in the role of drafter and at most a single project in the role of co-drafter under calls for standard and international projects.
- Implementation period 1.1.2021 – 31.12.2022 (2023), EXPRO and JUNIOR STAR until 2025.
- Support: 100%, overhead costs 20% of the total approved costs.
